Ego, Time and Presence

Eckhart Tolle makes such interesting statements. Here are a few:

Your decision to make the present moment into your friend is the
end of the ego. Time is what the ego lives on. The ego will treat the
present moment as...a means to an end....an obstacle...or an enemy.
The stronger the ego, the stronger the sense of separateness
between people.

That reminds me of this talk by a Sufi teacher in which he starts out by saying lets dispel any notion of spiritual progress, for the simple reason that it is a perception of time where you get somewhere in the future.

Of course, there can be the idea of a someone separate from their friend, the present moment, too.. "When 'I' am present with the moment" ... which of course is still separate. I can hear it now.. "But that's a spiritual I, I'm practicing presence.." Tricky thing to get across, that.
