Psychotherapy-The 12 steps-Religion

What do the 12 steps, religion, and psychotherapy have in common?

1. Self-knowledge : Working on oneself towards self-realization or
God consciousness.

2. Confessional: Telling someone about our imperfections confidentially and
seeing our own part in difficulties (doing one's own inventory.)

3. Deflation of Ego: Elimination of egocentricity, arrogance,
disruptive emotions,etc.
Ram Dass says ,"enlightenment is the ego's
greatest disappointment."

4. Replacement with humility, love and soul connectedness with others,
awareness that we are ALL one...no one and nothing in earth or heaven is excluded.

Repentence? (Steps 6 & 7)

Yes, of course! Repent in psychotherapy is the development of qualities i.e. to forgive, ask for forgiveness or to make apology and to openly find a new course, 1st with ourselves & those we love and then all of our brothers and sisters.
I tend to include that in the confessional aspect because when we reach a certain level of complexity or love(becoming aware of what we do to ourselves and others)the next step is implied, or so it seems to me.We learn these things only where their is love.

I don't care for the word repent much because of the preachers who
command 'repent you sinners',as if
one could repent where there has been no change in heart.
