Where is democracy?

Let's see, we already ruled out that there's no democracy
in corporations, nor the military, or the industrial complex.
So, in everyday life, do we find it in churches and temples?
They seem to be strongholds of authoritarianism. I would
say no, again. Do we find it in families? Perhaps a few
partnerships, but not for children.More often the parents
are bosses...."I say, you do" or "I say, you believe".

If we can't find it in everyday life, how does anyone learn
to be a citizen of democracy?

I'm trying to think of work or professions that do live
in a democracy. Any help?

Hrm. No... nope... I've never participated in a democracy. More in a republic. Sort of.

If we can't find democracy in everyday life, then why do we need to learn to be citizens of a democracy? When do these skills get used?

Oh. I see. Well, we live in a republic, not a democracy. (The U.S. is a republic... really.)

What are the benefits of living in a democracy? As opposed to some other situation where there is room for input, and respect for input... but there is a final decision-maker who must be respected. There's certainly some safety in that.

Not trying to convince anybody of anything, just forwarding the question as one to consider...

Depends on who the final decision maker is, don't you think? You might enjoy reading Molly Ivins ,under my Links.
