E Coli & Spinach

I read that there have been many problems with E-Coli in produce in the Salinas Valley, in prior
and not so publicized agicultural reports. I think the practices in the Salinas Valley are careless
and irresponsible. If they don't do it right, they do cause the spread of disease, just as with
polluted water. Wouldn't it be true that if you hire 3rd world workers, you will get 3rd world
agricultural practices?

Truth v Lies

Truth is healing. Lies makes us crazy.
The combination of secrecy, lies and ,
no way to comment about it ,
or
escape, make us insane.

10,000 cases of abuse

I just saw a film about sexual child abuse by priests of the Catholic Church
in Boston and it ended by the mention that all together the Catholic Church
had 10,000 cases of child abuse in this country by priests. And none of that
is ancient history.

Years ago I was punished by being asked to resign from my position on staff
at a homeless shelter. The churches were highly involved in its operation, and
the churches , esp. the Catholic was again more important then the children.
The Catholic Church was down on me because at that
time I was bringing attention to the epidemic of sexual childhood abuse in churches
thoughout the country. I didn't know that very issue was boiling to a head in my
hometown in our adored Catholic institution. So they got rid of me, but it didn't
get rid of their problem, which became infamous in the news for sometime.

When you really try to change abuse in our society, you are up against
formidable institutions who believe secrecy is more important than the
welfare of our children.

Review on Ozone Benefits

The ozone layer protects us biologicals from damaging radiation from the sun, which
can burn our skin, cause skin cancer, change animal's DNA including ours and, who
knows what else. We still get sun burn even with the ozone layer. Imagine what it
would be like without any protection. I wonder how likely the hole is to move from where
it is now.

Ozone Hole

Latest report shows the hole in our Ozone layer to be much worse...now 10.6 million sq.miles (which
is larger than the North American Continent) according to NOAA.  To view it from the outside, go to

Neighbors

My neighbors are having an interesting music battle on the back 40. For weeks one neighor
has played loud honky tonk music and yesterday another neighbor played loud classical music
for about 5 hours. I was tuned to the same station inside, KUSC, so it didn't bother me too much,
although I could feel the hostility behind the loudness. I was glad it wasn't in my face and I was
really happy when it quit.

Married Couples Disapearing

Census bureau has released the figures for 2005:  Married couples are now less then half of the households
in the U.S. Five years ago they reported 52%. Now it's 49.7

Think about what that says about our Society.  All the talk about family values....is only relevant to half
the households, or what is a family today?  Is it a family if  there is no married couple? All of our definitions
and discussions are turned upside down.  Basically, our adults and children working and going to school are
not coming out of married families. I wonder what else it means.

Change

Every system has a life cycle.  Your system is intergrated at a certain level.  When change happens
it causes a disintegration in the system. It requires focus, attention, and revision to reintegrate the system
and it may well be at a higher level or it may well be at a lower level. We don't usually like change because
its a pest that must be eliminated or assimilated.

You can apply the same system approach to your body, a life, any organization, to a company that blooms
and dies in 3 years or the Catholic Church that has a very long life cycle.  One can also apply it to a blog.
I think systems theory is the most exciting thing that happenned in the 20th century. We were able to begin
to look at families and interactions with a very fine discerning lense. It has helped us to see institutional abuse
of people. ....when organizations treat people like objects or numbers or classifications it is just as abusive as
beating someone up.  And , from a psychological perspective, its just as bad.

I Dream of the Day

When news of high unemployment, elimination of productivity in our country, increased soldier and citizen violence,
more and more death and destruction, along with news of ethics being dumped in Congress, and acceptance
of torture......

John Lennon vs U.S.

Don't miss the movie. Saw it today along with a crowd that responded en mass. It should inspire
a revolution, but people are too afraid. Only a couple of analogies between Nixon and Bush, but powerful.
It's amazing how our society has practically ruled out dissent and protest and even disagreement with the
administration, when that is what we are really all about. It's a beautifully presented film too.

I think our nation has gone belly up, but for a few minutes today I felt what we were all about in the 60s
and wanted to protest our leaders constant war mongering.  In many ways it didn't seem like now is
any different from then.   50,000 Americans killed in Vietnam. Over 100,000 Vietnamese.

The spirit of life and love contrasted to war and death and destruction was and is no fiction. The movie is
not fiction. I wonder where the non-violent people are now.
